Mud Cracking Paint - Causes & Solutions
Interior design is not a challenge if you know the basics, especially when it comes to painting. Whether you are looking to add some depth to your paint job or trying to correct it, you can make interior painting fun and easy. With a little focus and patience, having the house of your dreams is as easy as purchasing a bucket of paint and roller-brush.
The technique
You have all seen it: that crackled look on walls that looks intensely meticulous. It is not the result of an earthquake or the effort of slicing a wall of perfectly applied paint. It is a technique called mud cracking. When you are mud cracking paint, you not only saving yourself from a messy job, but you are creating a rustic look. Occasionally, it is seen on stucco houses in western America. However, interior paint cracking brings the greatest part of the wild into your tame living room.
How to do it
First, apply a primer (unless your paint has one included). Rather than carefully applying an even layer of paint as you would on a normal paint job, you must apply as much paint as possible. Make sure to over-apply the paint, especially in corners, but do not splatter. Rather, coat your painting tool as much paint as possible. Doing this prevents the paint from properly settling due to thickness. Apply a thickness that suits your taste, and when you are finished, allow your masterpiece to dry.
How to correct it
If your paint has become mud cracked, and you do not like the look, or it has only cracked in certain areas, there are simple solutions to correcting it. To remove mud cracking, you may sand down the areas where there is too much paint. After sanding the area, you must re-prime the area and repaint carefully.
Interior design does not require a degree and is not much of a challenge. By taking small steps to change the look of your house, you are developing fundamental skills that are sure to make your next makeover even better.
