Paint Splattering - Causes & Solutions
Learn about how to avoid paint splattering. When it comes to home improvement, there is not much that is worse than painting a room just the color you want, making it look perfect and realizing that you splattered paint everywhere. There are a few things you can do to avoid splattering that leaves small droplets of paint in places you do not want it.
How much paint to use on your roller
When you are pouring paint into your paint tray, make sure to use the right amount of paint. If you use too much, you over-saturate the roller, which can cause paint to fly off the roller and onto places you would prefer it not to. Make sure to only pour enough paint into the bottom of the tray to form a shallow layer of paint. Gently roll your roller into the paint, and roll it over the moguls, which are the rows of small bumps along the ramp of the tray. This helps you roll the right amount of paint onto your roller.
How to use your roller
Properly using the roller helps you avoid splatters a well. The key to this is staying slow and steady. You might find yourself tempted to rush through, quickly rolling the roller over your wall, but this does not result in the fantastic paint job for which you hope.
Taping
Aside from avoiding splatter, taping before you paint helps you not paint over areas you do not wish to paint. Carefully tape along edges of windows, walls, molding and other areas you want kept paint free.
What to do if there is splatter
If your paint splatters and you catch your mistake quickly, it is often easy to clean the splatters before the pain dries. Keep a wet rag with you to wipe away any little splatters that might occur - before they dry.
