Introduction to the Kelly-Moore Paint Company Dealer Opportunity
At Kelly-Moore, we make it easy to do business, and strive to help you improve your profits along the way! Our Dealer and Distributor program will always be straightforward - keeping it easy to understand and easy for you to make money. We are an ESOP company, which means that every employee is an owner and we truly want to see our partners prosper. We manufacture our paints to fit the specific market needs of the painting professional, DIYer, property manager and many other customers, and provide paint, coatings, and painting tools for a variety of applications.
Dealership vs Distributorship
The Kelly-Moore "dealership" purchases less than $50,000 in Kelly-Moore paint and sundries annually, while a "distributorship" purchases more than $50,000 annually. There is no franchise or license fee due to start this relationship, but we do expect partners to treat Kelly-Moore's customers with the best business ethics and customer service - as we do in our stores. When ready, we will provide a business agreement to clarify all issues and concerns that can be renewed annually.
Products
The entire Kelly-Moore paint product line is available to you. The paints are grouped by family, within a production level, commercial level, and premium level strategy to address the requirements of different customer segments. Your KM sales person can help you select the paints and the price-points that fit your market needs and technical expertise. Just remember, special requirements may be needed at your location to best sell certain products, as we offer a full line of paints and industrial coatings. Some coatings, for instance, may require industrial tints and explosion proof shakers. Typical product families include the following types:

Each KM shipping pallet holds a maximum of 180 gallons due to shipping-weight restrictions - all single gallon cans (180) or all five gallon pails (36).
Sundry Products
A complete line of other related sundry items sold in our Kelly-Moore stores and available in our three distribution warehouses can be added to paint orders in case-lot quantities. If you need a dozen brushes, just add one case to the paint order, and your sales rep can advise you of the many items and case quantities. In most cases, if it's in our warehouses, it's available for you.
Color
Some of the KM paint lines are available with factory made, ready-mixed colors for convenience, and your sales person can review these with you. Our paints are offered in 4-tint bases for the in-store tinting of custom colors. We will provide a formula book for all KM colors and would prefer that you use the KM colorants to best achieve matching. We sell colorants as a sundry item, by the quart and gallon. We can provide you with tinting and shaker equipment at our landed costs (most major brands), from the most sophisticated computerized tint machines to a small single gallon shaker - you pay what we would pay. As a Dealer, select a mix of 500 color cards ($300+ value) of your choice as we use in our stores, packaged in 25 card packs. Additional cards can be ordered at any time at our landed cost. At the Distributor-level of purchases, we will also provide a 46" wide "Color Xperience" Display Rack ($1400) for your showroom floor at no charge; replacement chips are available at our landed cost.
Order Processing
Your sales person will receive, verify and process your orders within the factory. Orders are usually shipped within 2-3 days.
- Five gallon pails must be ordered in quantities of 3 (stacked).
- Singles gallon cans must be ordered in quantities of 4 (per flat box).
- Quarts can be ordered in quantities of 9 (per flat) in lines where available.
- Sundries can be ordered by single case lot, which will vary by item.
Terms of Sale
You are supplied with a quoted price for all products as a factory direct sale and we will hold pricing in accordance with our agreement. Traditionally, all product pricing will be reviewed at the beginning of each year. A 60-day charge account will be opened upon approved commercial credit.
Co-op Advertising Allowance
You will earn an additional advertising allowance paid quarterly or annually, as established with your sales representative. This money can be used to purchase additional color tools priced at our landed costs, or to help with local advertising expenses. We would expect the KM paint product sales to benefit from these advertisements, and electronic files of sized, editable ad artwork will be provided to you in color and black/white. You have access to use the Kelly-Moore logo and our association to help your business in accordance with established logo guidelines. We will include a link to your paint business website or online contact, on the very popular Kelly-Moore Paints corporate site.
Freight Allowance
Kelly-Moore will honor a pre-paid freight agreement for your initial opening order. All subsequent orders of 2 pallets of KMP paint, or more will received pre-paid freight allowances. Individual pallets included in the first 2 pallets of paint on any order, must be either all singles-gallons or all five-gallon pails, 360 gallons in total. The paint products, that make-up this order, can be mixed within the pallet to achieve this quantity, so long as the order-minimums are met. If weight allows, we can usually put sundries or color tools on top of the paint.
NOTE: In these times of fast-escalating fuel costs and freight surcharges, we must reserve the right to adjust this policy. But, we will always communicate clearly with our partners in a timely manner.
Training
We will conduct product training for your sales personnel. The Kelly-Moore Sales Reps are very well versed in all products and applications. Most spent years working in the KM store locations, so they understand the store operation environment for consumers and contractors. Other training is available upon request and proper notification.
