Kelly-Moore Paints Wins Environmental Award
SAN CARLOS, Calif., Mar. 17, 2008 – Kelly-Moore Paint Company received the 2007 Northern California, Large Facility, ‘Certificate of Merit’ from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) as the runner up to ‘Facility of the Year’ winner Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Kelly-Moore Paints was recognized for taking proactive steps to meet current environmental pollution control standards.
The award was presented at CWEA’s 35th Annual Pretreatment, Pollution Prevention, and Storm Water Committee (P3S) Conference in Long Beach, Calif. Kelly-Moore Paints qualified for the state-wide award by earlier winning ‘Facility of the Year’ from the South Bayside System Authority (SBSA).
“We are honored to receive this award,” said Keith Hussinger, Kelly-Moore Paints San Carlos plant manager. “Our plant and company work very hard to manufacture quality products with the least possible impact on the environment. Every day we take steps to make our plant cleaner and safer. We recently implemented a recycling program in San Carlos reducing our landfill waste stream by more than 60 percent.”
Kelly-Moore Paint’s other environmentally friendly initiatives include recycling paint and reducing product volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In the ‘90s Kelly-Moore became one of the first paint companies to collect and remanufacture its products into ‘eCoat,’ a recycled paint line. Later this year, ‘Enviro Coat’ and ‘zero-VOC’ lines will be introduced.
